In November, we introduced a special Membership Match holiday campaign. For every new annual member to the Vox Membership program during the campaign, we unlocked a free annual membership for someone else who said they couldn’t afford one. 

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our member community and the success of the match program, we are able to keep our application program open and offer complimentary subscriptions to more readers who need them.

We’ve updated the program to accept applications on a rolling basis instead of just during the 2025 holiday season.

We’re launching a campaign to make each new Vox Membership go twice as far. This holiday season, when someone joins Vox as an annual member, we’ll match their purchase by giving a free annual membership to a person who wants to be part of our community but can’t currently afford access. It’s a simple way for you to support Vox’s journalism and share it with someone who needs it.

Vox Members enable us to produce the journalism you rely on, and we couldn’t do it without their support. But we also understand that, for some this season, a membership is out of reach. Your support helps us to keep Vox accessible to as many people as possible.

How the Vox Membership Match program works

When you purchase an annual plan at any point from November 24 to January 5, Vox will give one full year of access to an individual who applies for a membership.
Your membership will still give you all the other benefits of being a Vox Member: unlimited reading on our website, ad-free podcasts, and access to exclusive videos and livestreams on our new Patreon community — but it will also enable the same perks for somebody in the Vox community in need.

If cost is a barrier for you: We want our membership community to reflect the breadth of our audience. If you’d like to be a Vox Member but cost is standing in the way, you can submit a brief application for a free matched membership made possible by another reader’s purchase. Free memberships will be activated starting in January.

Two new exclusive video series
We’re launching two original video series, created exclusively for Vox Members:

• The Docket — Each episode explains how a major Supreme Court decision could alter the fabric of American life. We’ll explore how these cases affect real people and what they reveal about the cultural and societal shifts reshaping the country. The first episode is available now and explains how a case out of Louisiana has the potential to upend the Voting Rights Act and political representation for a generation.
  
• What’s Working — A look at the policies that are actually improving people’s lives. From child care to transportation to housing, we’ll highlight creative solutions and the people making them happen. The first episode will be published exclusively on Patreon in December.

We’re also digging into the Vox video archives to bring members a selection of fan-favorite videos, available to watch ad-free on Patreon.

Livestreamed conversations and community chats
We want to bring you closer to the Vox newsroom. Each month, Vox journalists will host a live conversation for members, a 30- to 60-minute discussion that dives into major stories in the news or shines a light on overlooked topics that deserve more attention. 

Members can also join our new Patreon community chats, where you can talk directly with Vox writers and editors and join weekly discussions that offer a behind-the-scenes look at how our stories come together. It’s all part of our mission to help you make sense of the world. 

Reporter Extras
Vox journalists will step in front of the camera to share something they uncovered in their reporting that they can’t stop thinking about. These behind-the-scenes videos, publishing twice a month, will pull back the curtain on how our stories come together. 

Ad-free podcasts and more
Members will also have access to ad-free episodes of Today, Explained, Unexplainable, The Gray Area, and Explain It to Me on Patreon. More exciting perks from our podcast team are coming in 2026, too — so stay tuned!

1. Senior correspondent Eric Levitz’s new column will focus on the ideas that animate the American political left, and the policy disputes, ideological disagreements, and strategic debates that could define the Democratic Party’s future. The first edition will publish next week.
   
2. Senior politics reporter Christian Paz will write each month on zoomers, boomers, and the changing politics of America. He’ll take a close look at the demographic shifts happening beneath our feet that are shaping the present — and explain how the tremors we’re feeling now could lead to the political earthquakes of the future. His first column will launch the week of October 7. 
   
3. Each month, senior correspondents Rebecca Jennings and Alex Abad-Santos will bring you their group chat. It will provide a taste of the vital (and vitally frivolous) culture of the moment — the memes, TikToks, gossip, and internet ephemera that they can’t stop thinking about. Look out for the first edition this Friday.

In addition to these columns, we’ll be publishing a number of other new stories each month just for members, including stories from our special election package being published this week. Plus, members will continue to have access to other exclusive newsletters, like Constance Grady’s monthly Ask a Book Critic and the Vox Explainer newsletter that takes you behind the scenes in our newsroom, as well as other opportunities to learn more about how we make our journalism.

On Wednesday, we launched a new way for us to answer your questions. Our Explain It to Me franchise will include a weekly podcast, weekly newsletter, and regular videos that all focus on what our audience wants to know.

The first podcast episode answers a listener’s question about whether his dentist is scamming him while the first edition of the newsletter answers a reader’s question about whether bugs are disappearing — and what we can do about it.

Vox’s goal is to explain the world. But we know answers to your questions are hard to find. Misinformation is rampant, and internet searches and AI chatbots often come up empty. 

So that’s why we’re here. Our newsroom is ready to answer with deep reporting and expert insight, whether your questions are heavy or silly, systemic or personal.
