The Interview will be in theaters after all

The owner of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin just tweeted that his theater will, in fact, be showing The Interview this Christmas:

Previously on Vox, Todd VanDer Werff denounced the cowardly decision to pull the film.

This appears to be a victory for the petition campaign spearheaded by Art House Convergence, a national association of independent theaters, who are taking advantage of the big chains' skittishness around the movie to take a stand for freedom. Sony now says that the film will be available in a number of independent cinemas around the country, and appears to be opening the door to a streaming release of some kind.
