Watch Stephen Colbert read passages from a pro-gun children’s book
My Parents Open Carry is a new children's book about a young girl named Brenna and her gun-toting mom and dad. Since its release, the book has won both scorn from critics and praise from gun rights activists (which is unsurprising, as the US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world). But no reaction beats Stephen Colbert's, who gave it the full Colbert Report treatment last night when he read it aloud like a bedtime story to his audience. He carefully selected passages from its 40 pages, including:
“Brenna, there is evil in this world, and we want to protect you the best we can...When seconds count, the police are minutes away.”
Or, rather, as Colbert paraphrased, “The world is full of maniacs who want to hurt you, and the police can’t help. Goodnight, honey!”
