We still don’t have the full-length trailer for Jessica Jones, which debuts November 20, and the wait is so very painful. Part of that is due to how good Daredevil was, and the anticipation and hope that Jessica Jones, Marvel’s next Netflix original series, will be just as good. The other part of the equation is that what we’ve seen of Jessica Jones so far is actually pretty good.

Last week, Marvel and Netflix released a teaser trailer that felt like a superhero version of Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck. It got to the idea that Jones is a messy person, and Jessica Jones won’t be your typical “hero” story. Jones is hungover. Her apartment is a mess. There’s oppressive daylight shining through her window. And she’s still in bed at 2 pm. Her alarm goes off, and she crushes it, signaling that while this may be a hero with great power, there’s no great responsibility here.
Another international trailer was released on Wednesday, and it’s just as good. In it, we see someone (it could be a man or woman) with a bloody hand fiddle with a jukebox, eventually hitting it so it plays Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation.” The jukebox moves a couple of inches, and you realize it’s someone with super strength. Then we get a pan of crumpled, groaning bodies on the floor before this mystery person (it’s JESSICA JONES!) sidles up to the bar for a shot of dark liquor.
It’s a great homage to Jones’s seedy, dark comic book origin story, but there’s a playfulness (the Jett song and the shot) that’s very different from Daredevil’s noir. And there’s enough here that it leaves us all wanting more.
