Jon Stewart takes on Donald Trump’s ridiculous comments about John McCain

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart went on vacation two weeks ago, expecting that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign would likely flame out. But since the comedian’s break, Trump has only risen in the polls.

“Donald Trump, the patron saint of topical comedians who are just running out the clock,” Stewart quipped. He later added, “I really feel like he’s some sort of Jewish holiday waiting to happen. Like, we thought the craziness would only last a day, but by a miracle it burned for eight, 10 … holy shit.”

Stewart mocked Trump’s comments about John McCain

Over the weekend, Trump insulted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who spent several years as a prisoner during the Vietnam War. “He’s not a war hero,” Trump said. “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Stewart mocked Trump’s comments about McCain. “You know what else, if I may? Just a moment. And fuck cancer survivors, too,” Stewart joked, while acting like Trump. “I like people who don’t get cancer. Let me tell you something: I like winners. Those are the people whose bodies don’t suffer from an uncontrollable division of abnormal cells attacking their organs.”

“Trump’s bold ‘POWs aren’t heroes’ raised questions of, ‘What the fuck is wrong with him?’”

“Trump had no choice but to recognize that he had misspoken and take the honorable way out,” Stewart said. “Nah! I’m just fucking with you.”

Instead, Trump insisted he never said McCain isn’t a war hero. But the video clearly shows Trump saying McCain wasn’t one, and only calling McCain one sarcastically when he said, “He’s a war hero because he was captured.”

“Does calling someone a war hero count if you’re doing it sarcastically?” Stewart said.

Stewart questioned the Republican reaction to Trump

The reaction to Trump’s comments has been swift, inspiring media and his Republican opponents in the primary elections to demand that the billionaire apologize.

But Stewart pointed out a double standard. “At long last does the man who accused the vast majority of Mexican immigrants of being drug-addicted rapists have no sense of decency,” he said.
