Watch: the Wonder Woman trailer has arrived

Wonder Woman has arrived.

On Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. revealed the first trailer for Wonder Woman, the superhero origin film for the first lady of DC Comics and arguably the most recognizable female hero in all of comic books.

And (Great Hera!) it looks good.

We get to see some Amazonian warfare, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, a.k.a. Diana Prince, on the World War I battlefield, and even the lasso. Yes, the infamous lasso of truth makes its appearance. Also, Etta Candy (Lucy Davis) — a vital character to Wonder Woman’s origin story — shows up briefly at the end.

There’s also a glimpse of Themyscira, the island where Wonder Woman and Amazons like her live — it’s bright and colorful and perhaps a sign that someone at Warner Bros. has been paying to the critique that Batman v Superman was too gray and grim.

Of course, trailers are trailers, and this is just a slice of the movie — the whole thing could end up being not great. But for fans who believe Wonder Woman was the best thing to come out of Batman v Superman, as well as fans who have cherished the character and been waiting for what seems like forever to see the character in her own movie, this is an exciting start.

Wonder Woman is slated for release in 2017.
