11 of Donald Trump’s biggest whoppers in the first presidential debate

A few times the GOP presidential candidate struggled with the truth.

fDonald Trump started his business with a tiny loan, Hillary Clinton has been fighting ISIS since 1947, and stop and frisk doesn’t disproportionately affect people of color.

These are some of the fabrications you would have heard from Trump during Monday night’s presidential debate. Trump has amassed a record of stating falsehoods throughout the campaign — a record that has been widely picked up on and derided by longtime political observers.

“All politicians bend the truth to fit their purposes, including Hillary Clinton,” wrote the New York Times in an unusual critical news story last week. “But Donald J. Trump has unleashed a blizzard of falsehoods, exaggerations and outright lies in the general election, peppering his speeches, interviews and Twitter posts with untruths so frequent that they can seem flighty or random — even compulsive.”

Those falsehoods were on flagrant display during the first presidential debate. Trump’s misstatements may have desensitized some political observers, but the ones Monday night may have shocked even those primed to hear them.

We rounded up 11 of the leading misleading whoppers from the debate:

1) Trump: “I do not say” climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.

False.

2) Trump to Clinton: “You’ve been fighting ISIS your whole life.”

False.

3) Trump claimed to have not called women “pigs, slobs, and dogs.”

False.

4) Trump said he was endorsed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement border patrol agency.

False.

5) Trump said he did not support the Iraq War.

False.

6) Trump: I only got a “very small” business loan from my father.

False.

7) Trump denied that he claimed to not care if Asian countries got nukes.

False.

8) Trump claimed he released the “most extensive” financial review in political history.

False.

9) Trump blamed the “birther” conspiracy theories on Clinton allies.

False.

10) Trump claimed American manufacturing is in decline.

False.

11) Trump: NATO focuses on terrorism because of me.

False.
