Dropbox Steps Up Business Development With Hires From Facebook, Google and Spotify

Longtime Facebook mobile exec Henri Moissinac and others join the inorganic growth team.

Dropbox has hired Henri Moissinac, the longtime Facebook director of mobile partnerships, as part of a bulking up of its business development unit.

After six years at Facebook, Moissinac will be in charge of Dropbox growth via mobile partnerships with operators and devicemakers, the company said.

He had previously helped strike partnerships with hundreds of carriers to offer free or cheap access to Facebook so that it could be a sort of gateway drug for mobile Internet usage.

Moissinac will report to Dropbox VP of partnerships Marc Leibowitz, who previously led business development at StumbleUpon and strategic partnerships during a seven-year tenure at Google before joining Dropbox last spring.

After Re/code stumbled into the news of Moissinac’s joining this week, Dropbox mentioned a couple of other recent partnerships hires.

Christine Moon joined in November to lead worldwide device partnerships, having previously led Android partnerships at Google and leading the launches of various Nexus devices.

Tom Hsieh joined in December to lead strategic partnerships from the same role at Spotify. He’ll try to grow Dropbox usage by partnering with Web, software, application, access, retailer and other partners, the company said.

It’s notable for a consumer Internet service like Dropbox to put so much focus on growth through partnerships and not just relying on word of mouth and network, but the company already has quite a history of striking distribution deals with companies including Samsung, Yahoo and Dell.
