Apple Taps Talent from Medical Sensor Firms

A fingerprint scanner may have only been the start for Apple. The Cupertino tech company has made recent hires in the medical sensor field that raise interesting possibilities for any forthcoming wearable computing devices, according to 9to5Mac. Apple has hired Nancy Dougherty from Sano Intelligence, where she worked on a “small, painless patch that … uses needle-less technologies to read and analyze a user’s blood.” Meanwhile, the company tapped Ravi Narasimhan from Vital Connect, which developed a sensor that can “measure steps, skin temperature, respiratory rate, and can even detect falls.” Apple, which is widely rumored to be developing a smart watch, is also exploring iris scanning technology, the publication reported, citing unnamed sources. Earlier this week, Google announced work on a contact lens that could monitor blood glucose levels for diabetics.
