The NoPhone is exactly what it sounds like — a phone that is not a phone. Well, OK, it’s not actually a phone. It’s just a plastic thing designed to look exactly like an iPhone.
There’s a new Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a fake phone
“Phone addiction is real,” they write. “And it’s everywhere. It’s ruining your dates. It’s distracting you at concerts. It’s disrupting you in movie theaters. It’s clogging up sidewalks.”
The solution to this societal ill is a “technology-free alternative to constant hand-to-phone contact that allows you to stay connected with the real world.” In other words, if you need to have a rectangular object in your pocket/hands/purse at all times, then here you go.
The inventors of the NoPhone started a Kickstarter campaign for their gadget-free gadget in September. Their goal was $5,000, but as of this writing, over 300 backers have contributed $6,340 to the project. Most donors have given $12, the going price of one NoPhone.
According to its makers, the NoPhone is better than other actual phones because it doesn’t require batteries or upgrades. They also have plans for a NoPhone Selfie Upgrade, which is basically a mirror stuck to the back of it.

One of the greatest benefits to the NoPhone, according to one reviewer, is how it prevents users from making late-night decisions they will later regret. “Because of the NoPhone, I haven’t drunk texted my ex-boyfriend in one whole week.”
The NoPhone isn’t without its critics, though. Someone at Business Insider alleged that the contraption is “ironic.”
