Marvel’s female superhero movie is coming in 2018

On Tuesday, Marvel announced it would be bringing Captain Marvel to the big screen in 2018, making her the first Marvel female superhero to get a film since 2005’s forgettable Elektra. Over the past few years, the call for Marvel to create a female superhero movie has been getting louder. And the character that has topped the list for most comic book readers is Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers.

Though she doesn’t exist in the Avengers movies, Captain Marvel has been an integral member of the team in the comics. Talented writer Kelly Sue DeConnick has turned Danvers into a leader of the Avengers, giving the character depth — by fleshing out her experience as an Air Force captain — to go along with her photon blasts and super strength.

Fans will get to see Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018.

Captain Marvel was just one piece of Marvel’s plans. In addition to big-screen Captain Marvel, we will also be seeing marvel’s first black superhero when a Black Panther movie hits in 2017:

There will also be a two-part Avengers movie in 2018, which teases a possible crossover with the Guardians of the Galaxy:

A movie about the Inhumans will be released that same year:

And the rumored Civil War adaptation is now a reality:
