Wireless Power Startup uBeam Raises $10 Million in Funding

Wireless power company uBeam said it has raised $10 million in Series A funding, led by Los Angeles-based Upfront Ventures. Existing investors Andreessen Horowitz, Mark Cuban and Ludlow Ventures are also participating. The company — which had previously raised $1.7 million — said the money will be used to expand the engineering team and product development. In addition, Upfront’s Mark Suster, as well as Katie McMahon of SoundHound, have joined the board of directors. The technology behind uBeam allows a user to wirelessly charge devices, such as cellphones and laptops, using ultrasound.
