Two years ago, Square introduced a digital gift-card program that never took off. This holiday season, it’ll try its hand at physical gift cards. The payments and local-commerce company announced this morning that it will start offering gift cards to businesses that run on Square’s point-of-sale software. Merchants who want to offer these gift cards to their customers will pay Square $1.50 per card and won’t pay any transaction fees when a card is redeemed.
