Map: The most expensive home for sale in every state
Over at real estate site Zillow, Catherine Sherman put together a list of the most expensive home on sale in each state. Sherman doesn’t include a DC home, but we can tell you the most expensive listing in our nation’s capital is a 5,400 square feet four bed/five bath townhouse in Georgetown, going for $10.5 million.

Here are the top 5 most expensive listings.
- California — $195 million
- New York — $140 million
- Florida — $139 million
- Connecticut — $65 million
- Colorado — $59 million
If you look into each listing, you’ll see that the price has as much to do with location as it does with what the individual homes have to offer. On paper, a 25,000 square-foot home in Kentucky seems like it shouldn’t be $130 million less than a 10,000 square foot home in New York. But the point is: a Lexington home isn’t not nice — it just isn’t in East Hampton.
All together, the sale prices of the 50 homes on this map total almost $1.5 billion.
