Nokia Lumia 930, 635 Among First to Run Windows Phone 8.1

Coming this summer.

Nokia

At the Microsoft Build developers conference today, Nokia introduced three new Lumia smartphones, the Lumia 930, Lumia 635 and Lumia 630. All will run the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.1.

The Nokia Lumia 930 looks to be the international version of the Lumia Icon, which was released here in the U.S. in late February exclusively through Verizon. As a flagship device, it includes such high-end features as a five-inch full HD display, 20-megapixel PureView camera and Snapdragon quad-core processor.

The Lumia 930 is expected to be available in June in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and India for $599 before subsidies and taxes.

While the Lumia 930 covers the premium end of things, the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 tackle more of the midrange market. Both have a 4.5-inch touchscreen, a five-megapixel rear camera and a quad-core processor. They also include interchangeable shells and a new low-power sensor that can measure steps taken, miles walked and more.

The Lumia 630 will be 3G only, while the Lumia 635 supports 4G LTE. The former will launch in Asia, Russia, China and Europe this May, with pricing starting at $159. Meanwhile, the Lumia 635 will be available globally, including the U.S., beginning in July. Pricing will start at $189, and T-Mobile and MetroPCS have already announced that they will offer the phone this summer.

The new Lumia trio are the first devices to run Windows Phone 8.1, which includes such notable additions as the Cortana voice assistant, a notification center and Word Flow keyboard that works similarly to SwiftKey and Swype.

In addition to the new devices, Nokia announced that its entire Lumia Windows Phone 8 portfolio would receive an over-the-air Windows Phone 8.1 update this summer.

Nokia is scheduled to host its own event tonight in San Francisco where we expect to get a closer look at the new devices.
