Mightybell, the startup that allows companies to create their own self-contained social networks, opened its doors widely to the general public on Thursday morning, after being in a beta testing phase with companies like Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Think of Mightybell as sort of a hybrid of Nextdoor and Reddit: Organizations can attach Mightybell’s tools and platform to their websites to foster vertical social networks around a particular theme or effort. The idea is somewhat akin to founder Gina Bianchini’s previous efforts with Ning, which she left years ago.
