“Gangnam Style” Hits Two Billion YouTube Views

Two-year-old Korean pop song breaks depressing new record.

Pop song “Gangnam Style” broke the two-billion-views mark on YouTube late Friday night, becoming the first video clip on the service to pass that milestone.

The video had 2,000,614,270 views as of 10 am ET. “Gangham Style” has attracted 100 million views so far this year, which seems pretty remarkable, since the song was released two years ago.

“Two billion views … they are very honorable and very burdensome numbers,” Psy said in a statement to Billboard. “With appreciation, I will come back soon with more joyful contents!!”

Beliebers will have their work cut out for them to push YouTube’s second-most-popular video of all time, Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” above that mark, since it has (only?) 1.04 billion views.
