Calm down. Kidz Bop is not covering hip-hop songs.

The twitter-verse has been up in arms today over a kid-friendly version of Chris Brown’s hit song “Loyal.” Incorrectly, the video was presumed to be a clip from the newest Kidz Bop album.

Kidz Bop is a company that creates compilation albums of kids and teens singing Top 40 hits. The first Kidz Bop album was released in 2001, and featured songs like “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin and “Oops!...I did it Again” by Britney Spears. The songs are cleaned up in order to better appeal to a younger demographic, and incredibly popular. Every Kidz Bop album (there are now 26) has hit #1 on the kids music chart.

With lines like “I wasn’t born last night, I know these hoes ain’t right,” and “If she’s a bad bitch, let’s get to it right away,” Chris Brown’s “Loyal” isn’t quite the type of kid-friendly song Kidz Bop is known for. Probably because it wasn’t actually a Kidz Bop song. The lineup for Kidz Bop 26, which will release July 15, is packed with songs like “Happy” and “Counting Stars.” It does not include “Loyal.”

The viral video causing a horde of Twitter users tweeting that “Kidz Bop must be stopped” is actually the product of MattyBRaps, who is apparently a youtube celebrity for covering rap videos. He is an 11-year old rapper from Atlanta. You can watch the video here if you want:

We live in an age now where an 11 year old boy gets more than a million hits on covers of popular songs, and can send Millennial twitter into a frenzy and kick-up a media crisis for a kids-music company with a 6 second vine.
