Young adult fiction-inspired movies involving one-note paranormal romances (human + vampire, human + witch, human + angel, etc.) show no signs of going away, so it’s little surprise that a smart skewering of the genre would come out eventually:
Life After Beth makes the case against dating a teenage zombie

Starring the sulky and talented Dane DeHaan (Kill Your Darlings, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Parks and Rec’s perpetually deadpan Aubrey Plaza, Life After Beth looks like a teenage rom-com movie with brains and asks important questions like: if you were dating an overbearing teenage zombie, where would you guys eat?
While all the focus is on Zach (DeHaan) and Beth (Plaza), there’s an impressive supporting cast in Anna Kendrick, Molly Shannon, Paul Reiser, Cheryl Hines, and John C. Reilly.
Life After Beth will be released in theaters on August 15.
