Former Skype Boss Tony Bates Joins GoPro as President and Board Member

He was among the first to exit Microsoft once Satya Nadella was named CEO.

Former Skype head and Microsoft executive Tony Bates has taken a new post as president and board member of video camera maker GoPro.

“GoPro represents everything that excites me in a company — incredible products, compelling content, a world-renowned brand and above all, amazing people who make it happen,” Bates said in a statement. He will report to GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman.

Bates was among the first Microsoft executives to depart following the appointment of Satya Nadella as Microsoft CEO earlier this year. Bates had been an executive VP at Microsoft, leading business development efforts.

GoPro last month filed papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission to hold an initial public offering.
