Drone Startup Airware Raises $25 Million in Kleiner-Led Round

Airware, a San Francisco startup working to develop a common platform for commercial drones, said Wednesday it has raised $25 million in a funding round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The company plans to use the capital to expand its staff in preparation for the upcoming launch of its Aerial Information Platform, a hardware and software package that allows companies to build custom applications for various drones, analyze data collected from the vehicles and enable autonomous flight. KP General Partner Mike Abbott will join the company’s board as part of the Series B financing round. Earlier investors Andreessen Horowitz and First Round Capital also participated.
