Verizon Wireless to Start Restricting Network Speeds for Heaviest Users

Verizon Wireless will begin slowing network speeds for its heaviest data users who continue to use older unlimited data plans that are no longer offered by the carrier. The temporary speed reductions will only occur when these customers are connected to cell sites that are inundated with traffic. The carrier said its new policy, which takes effect in October, pertains to those 3G and 4G LTE customers who have fulfilled the minimum contract term for an unlimited data plan, but continue paying on a month-to-month basis. The change will affect these unlimited data customers who are in the top five percent of data users, Verizon said.
