Apple Confirms Purchase of Book Recommendation Maker BookLamp

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the company said in its telltale yes-we-bought-it and no-we-aren’t-saying-more statement.

Apple late Friday confirmed it has acquired BookLamp, the Idaho-based maker of a book recommendations service.

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the company said in the statement it typically gives when it buys companies.

Apple declined to comment further.

BookLamp, for its part, posted a statement that says its service “will no longer be available as our company evolves its mission.”

Its present mission, apparently, being to make its way to Cupertino and do whatever Apple says to do. Before being snapped up by Apple, the company had a “book genome project” that aimed to analyze books content and style and provide those that liked one book or author with recommendations for other books that might be of interest.

The purchase of BookLamp was first reported earlier Friday by TechCrunch.
