- BuzzFeed has $50 million in new funds, courtesy of Facebook board member Marc Andreessen’s VC firm. The Awl’s Matt Buchanan says this transaction gives platforms like Facebook, whose specialty is directing users to viral content hubs, even more power in determining which media outlets survive and which ones collapse.
- Wired’s Mat Honan experimented on Facebook by “Liking” everything he saw on Facebook, and found himself thoroughly grossed out. Or, as Ars Technica culture editor Casey Johnston tweeted: “User Tries to Emotionally Experiment On Facebook to See How THEY Like It.”
- The staff of Jezebel published a post yesterday calling out their owners at Gawker Media for failing to adequately monitor Jezebel’s comments for graphic images. On Twitter, Gawker Media editorial director Joel Johnson responded to the post.
- A Democrat running for a probate judge seat in Connecticut ran into some trouble this week, after it was revealed that her husband is an avowed white supremacist. Her response? “What am I supposed to do? Divorce him? It’s not unusual for husbands and wives to have different views.” The Daily Beast has more.
