Founders Fund has made its first investment through FF Science, its new allocation for early-stage science ventures, putting $2 million into Transatomic Power. The Cambridge, Mass., startup is developing a nuclear reactor that it claims will be safer, cleaner and cheaper than traditional versions. The company plans to use the money to test and refine the designs. Transatomic co-founders Leslie Dewan and Mark Massie developed the technology, which reduces the amount of nuclear waste by relying on liquid rather than solid fuel, as graduate students at MIT.
