Facebook announced on Thursday that it has acquired PrivateCore, an online security startup specifically focused on server security. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Facebook Acquires Security Startup PrivateCore to Better Protect Its Data Centers

The two-year-old startup will help Facebook keep its massive data centers safe from malware attacks and other forms of security breaches. Facebook is taking on some of PrivateCore’s employees in addition to its technology, and PrivateCore co-founders Oded Horovitz and Steve Weis will work at Facebook’s Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters along with other members of the PrivateCore team.
They will join the broader Facebook security team run by Joe Sullivan, the company’s chief security officer.
Data and server security has been an issue for tech companies as of late. Massive cyber attacks, like the Heartbleed bug that created security issues for hundreds of thousands of websites earlier this year, have led to increased security needs for tech companies. Twitter, for example, acquired password security startup Mitro last week.
