Google agreed to invest $145 million in a Southern California solar project that could generate enough energy to power 10,000 homes. The 82-megawatt Regulus power plant will be constructed on top of an aging oil and gas field in Kern County, Calif., through a deal with SunEdison expected to generate 650 local jobs. It marks the Mountain View, Calif., technology giant’s 17th investment in renewable energy since 2010, pushing the total past $1.5 billion. “We’re continually looking for newer, bigger and better projects that help us create a clean energy future,” the company said in a blog post.
