Brad Garlinghouse, the former Yahoo executive tapped two years ago to transform the company formerly known as YouSendit into the file-sharing company Hightail, has left the company.

Garlinghouse confirmed the move to Re/code. His LinkedIn profile currently reads “Goin’ fishin’” and he has listed his position with Hightail in the “previous” category.
Hightail said in a statement that it has named Ranjith Kumaran, a co-founder of the original company YouSendit, as its new CEO. (See the statement below.)
Having completed its rebranding last year, Hightail has struggled to differentiate itself in a crowded business for cloud storage and collaboration, where larger, better-funded companies like Box and Dropbox have flourished.
Hightail last raised money in November. It closed a $34 million Series E led by Western Digital Capital, the investment arm of the hard drive manufacturer Western Digital. Accolade Partners, a Washington, D.C., investment firm, also participated in the round. Previous investors include Alloy Ventures, Sevin Rosen, Emergence Capital, Adams Street Partners and Sigma Partners.
