Apple has issued a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular phone service and access to its Touch ID fingerprint sensor when they installed an update to the iOS 8 mobile operating system.

Apple, which quickly acknowledged problems and withdrew the update earlier Wednesday, offered an apology to users who found they could no longer make phone calls once they installed iOS 8.0.1 — which was intended to patch software bugs.
“We apologize for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue,” a spokesperson said. “And will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days.”
Impact of the update, while embarrassing for Apple, appears to be limited to owners of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones who installed the update soon after it was available.
Apple has been quicker to accept responsibility for problems under Chief Executive Tim Cook, who issued a public apology to consumers after the 2012 introduction of a flawed mapping application as part of iOS 6.
