We all said goodbye to Stephen Colbert last month, as he signed off his final Colbert Report on Comedy Central. On Monday, CBS announced Colbert would be coming back on September 8.
CBS gives Stephen Colbert’s Late Show a premiere date

“I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby,” Colbert said in a statement.
Colbert’s just teasing — he and his writers know how to put on a brilliant, acerbic, and hilarious show. And he’s talked about just how much work goes into each episode.
What he’s getting at is that no one but him and his team know what kind of form his new show will take. All we’ve ever known for the last decade is Colbert being Colbert on The Colbert Report.
While The Colbert Report is a talk show, it was a bit more off-beat than traditional talk shows in terms of the guests it booked (The Daily Show is usually where movie stars go for promotion). And it’s very different from what Letterman is doing, and not even close to what the Jimmies (Fallon and Kimmel) do on a nightly basis.
We’ll see what happens in September.
