Many Americans followed the State of the Union on Tuesday night while trading jokes and engaging in discussions on Twitter.

This map, created by srogers with CartoDB, shows the places where Americans tweeted about the speech the most:
There’s a slight concentration in Washington, DC, at first, but the tweets quickly expand to the rest of the nation — largely focused in major urban areas like New York City, Los Angeles, and Seattle. But there’s still a noticeable rise in rural areas out West, although not many people in Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota were apparently watching the big speech while hanging out on Twitter.
