New York Times Pulls Plug on Tech Editor

The New York Times tech editor Suzanne Spector is, according to sources, no longer the New York Times tech editor. Replacements for the high-profile slot are being considered from inside the paper — reportedly one top candidate is Lydia Polgreen — as well as from outside. Spector is moving to the national section after what numerous insiders describe as an ouster, due in part to many defections of talent during her tenure from the section and tensions with some of those remaining. Those departures included such top names as Nick Bilton, Amy O’Leary, Jenna Wortham and Claire Cain Miller, who moved to other parts of the news organization. That said, some there said Spector was a strong and well-liked editor, but that the role needs to be located in San Francisco area, where tech is largely centered.
