‘Re/code Decode’: Arianna Huffington Thinks You Should Put Your Phone Down in Front of Loved Ones (Podcast)

“If you’re having dinner with someone you love, put your smartphone away.”

Re/code

Ten years ago, Arianna Huffington launched the Huffington Post, which is now one of the most highly-trafficked websites on the Internet. The Post was there for the pre-Facebook era, the rise of social media, a sale to AOL and AOL’s sale to Verizon.

On this week’s episode of the “Re/code Decode” podcast, Huffington tells Kara Swisher what it takes for media companies to survive in a constantly evolving publishing landscape.

“You can absolutely be run over if you don’t continue to pioneer,” she said on the show. “If you ever see yourself as doing maintenance, then you will be run over.”

Huffington also talks about the surprising success of Republican presidential candidates Ben Carson and Donald Trump, and proper smartphone etiquette (“If you’re having dinner with someone you love, put your smartphone away”). Later on in the show, The Verge’s Lauren Goode discusses 4K televisions, and whether you should buy one.

If you like what you hear on “Re/code Decode,” you can also head over to “Re/code Replay,” an archive of audio content from our events and interviews by Kara Swisher, Walt Mossberg, Peter Kafka, Ina Fried and more.

Every episode for both shows is available in two places: On our site at http://recode.net/podcasts and on Apple iTunes (here for "Re/code Decode" and here for "Re/code Replay"). You can follow @recode on Twitter for updates on upcoming guests.

If you like what we’re doing, please write a review on iTunes — and, if you don’t, just strafe Kara on Twitter. You can also suggest guests for the show there and we’ll try our level best to nab them for a Red Chair interview.
