Sonos (Finally) Adds Support for Apple Music

Owners of the high-end wireless speaker system will be able to stream songs from Apple’s music subscription service on Dec. 15, in a public beta. The testing is open to any Sonos owner, without restrictions. General availability is expected early next year.
About freaking time.
Apple issued a statement saying just that, only in more polite terms.
“Many of our members love Sonos and want to enjoy our service throughout their homes,” Apple’s Senior Vice President Eddy Cue said in the statement. “We’re thrilled to be working with Sonos to provide the Apple Music experience in even more places fans enjoy music.”
The advent of streaming music services like Apple Music are a boon for makers of Wi-Fi-connected speakers. Sonos’ results reflect that. The company has said it expects revenue to approach $1 billion this year — up from half that in 2013.
“The introduction of Apple Music marks an inflection point for streaming and its mass adoption,” Sonos co-founder and Chief Executive Officer John MacFarlane said in the statement.
Apple Music boasts about 6.5 million subscribers, roughly a third of market-leader Spotify, which in June reported it has 20 million paying users.
