LinkedIn’s Redesigned Mobile App Is Finally Available

The new app includes a new private messaging feature.

LinkedIn

The redesigned mobile app that LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner showed off back in October is now available to users worldwide.

LinkedIn has been working on the app for at least six months (probably much longer), and on Tuesday it finally hit Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store. The new design has five tabs on the screen, an attempt to de-clutter all of the app’s features into larger buckets that make it easier to use.

Included among the new tabs is a private messaging feature meant to feel more like texting than the current messaging tool InMail, which is akin to email. Most other social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram, already have some kind of private messaging tool and have for some time. As Weiner joked in October: “Welcome, LinkedIn, to the 21st century of communications. A little long in the making, but we got there.”
