Mark Zuckerberg’s FWD.us Releases Video Depicting Toll of Mass Deportation

First in a video series promoting immigration reforms.

FWD.us

The Mark Zuckerberg-backed advocacy group FWD.us today fired the opening salvo in a campaign against the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants with the first of a six-part video series called “11 Million Stories” depicting the human toll of such a policy.

The video opens with the ominous sounds of sirens and a helicopter flying overhead, then cuts to actual television news footage of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and one of his opponents, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, talking about “rounding them up in a very humane way” and “removing” undocumented immigrants from this country.

Through animation, the video dramatizes the imagined outcomes of a mass deportation, told from the perspectives of a child talking about how her family would be ripped apart, a farmer discussing crops rotting in the fields and a UCLA student cowering in her home, afraid to be discovered by a deportation force.

“11 Million Stories” marks the start of a year-long Immigration Action Voter campaign by FWD.us, a group founded by the Facebook CEO and other tech leaders, to speak out against mass deportation.

The 2016 election campaign set the stage for FWD.us’ push for broader immigration reform in 2017, where it will argue for stronger border security and providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who pass background checks, learn English and pay back taxes.
