The popular podcast Serial is coming back this fall. When it does, it won’t be telling Adnan Syed’s story, but a new one. And the show’s staff is already working on a third season, which will premiere about a year from now, executive producer Sarah Koenig wrote in an email newsletter.

Libby Nelson was Vox’s editorial director, politics and policy, leading coverage of how government action and inaction shape American life. Libby has more than a decade of policy journalism experience, including at Inside Higher Ed and Politico. She joined Vox in 2014.
“We can’t tell you details about the new stories yet,” Koenig wrote. “What we can say is that they’re very different from Season One, but no less interesting to us.”
Meanwhile, Syed is being allowed to request to reopen his case so that alibi witness Asia McClain, featured on an early episode of Serial’s first season, can give testimony.
