Scott Walker: Equal pay supporters “pit one group of Americans versus another”

In an interview with the Boston Herald, Walker stated that he believes efforts to promote equal pay, especially by Democrats, are a ploy to pit women and men against each other.

Citing discredited statistics from Hillary Clinton’s time as a New York senator, host Adriana Cohen questioned Walker about his take on Clinton’s purported pay discrimination.

“Politically, [Obama and Clinton] think that they do better if they pit one group of Americans versus another,” Walker said.

He continued, “I think Americans are hungry for leaders in our nation’s capital who are going to stand up and say, ‘How are we going to make every American’s life better? How do we help every American live their piece of the American Dream?’ Not how do we pit one group against another group out there.”

As Slate points out, equal pay isn’t only a women’s issue — it helps men too. Ensuring equal pay means better providing for the 60 percent of married families that rely on a double income.
