The context you need, when you need it

When news breaks, you need to understand what actually matters — and what to do about it. At Vox, our mission to help you make sense of the world has never been more vital. But we can’t do it on our own.

We rely on readers like you to fund our journalism. Will you support our work and become a Vox Member today?

Code/Media Comes Back to New York, Featuring AMC’s Josh Sapan and Thrillist’s Ben Lerer

The full Code/Media experience -- Live Journalism! Disruption! Drinks! -- in a couple of hours instead of two days. Seats will go fast.

Peter Kafka
Peter Kafka covered media and technology, and their intersection, at Vox. Many of his stories can be found in his Kafka on Media newsletter, and he also hosts the Recode Media podcast.

If you joined us at February’s Code/Media conference, you got to hear from, and meet, some of the most interesting people sitting at the intersection of media and technology.

But that was then! There’s still plenty to talk about, so we’re getting together again in New York, on September 9. You should be there.

An Evening with Code/Media is just what it sounds like — a condensed version of our signature Code/Media event, featuring the same kind of live journalism, fascinating speakers and dynamic crowd you saw earlier this year. We just get you in and out in a couple of hours, instead of two days.

We have two excellent speakers to announce, with more on the way:

  • AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan is the guy who brought us “Breaking Bad,” “Mad Men” and “The Walking Dead,” which means he’s the guy doing some of the best, and most popular, programming on TV. But the TV industry is at a crossroads, so Sapan and the rest of the industry need to figure out how to adapt to the new landscape. “Old tactics don’t work,” Sapan says. So what does? We’ll ask.
  • Thrillist Media Group CEO Ben Lerer has a business built around one of the most sought-after markets in the media business — the elusive millennial male. And he’s gotten pretty good at it: His Thrillist newsletter tells them where to eat, drink and spend their money, and his JackThreads business sells them clothes. And his insight goes beyond media and commerce: Via his Lerer Hippeau Ventures investment group, he gets to see the cutting edge of the startup world.

If you’ve been to one of our events before, you know what to expect when we host these things: In-depth, unscripted interviews onstage; lots of interesting people to meet sitting next to you. And if you’ve never made it in person, here’s your chance.

The catch: We’re hosting this at the Steelcase Worklife Center, which has amazing views of Manhattan and an excellent rooftop deck, but limited space. So if you want a seat, you should apply now. While we’re at it, this would be a good time to remind you that we’re bringing back the full Code/Media event next year in Dana Point, Calif. You can sign up for the Feb. 17-18 conference here.

We’ll have more speakers to announce this summer. See you soon.
