Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of Whitney Houston, has died at 22

Brown was born March 4, 1993, to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Her birth name was Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.

Her first public appearance came quickly. At the end of Bobby Brown’s “Something in Common” music video, the infant Brown was introduced to the world:

Like many children of celebrities, Brown spent her entire life in the limelight. Her parents, particularly Houston, continued to be mammoth stars throughout her childhood and most of her adolescence. They were incredibly successful entertainers, who struggled heavily with substance abuse. Though Brown’s parents tried to shield her from the media, most of her life was subject to public scrutiny.

The National Enquirer published a story alleging that Brown tried to stab her mother with a knife and was checked into the hospital. A story appeared in Radar saying she had done cocaine at a party, complete with a quote accusing her of being an addict.

Houston died suddenly in 2012, when she drowned in a hotel bathtub after overdosing. Her death was sudden and surprising. Afterward, TMZ claims that Brown was rushed to the hospital twice.

Brown’s first major appearance after Houston’s death was in a 2012 guest-starring role in Tyler Perry’s show For Better or Worse. More rumors surrounded her appearance on the show.

In January 2013, Brown married Nick Gordon, who had lived with her family when she was younger. According to E Online, Bobby Brown’s lawyer has claimed that Bobbi Kristina was never legally married.

“Whitney’s death hit her harder than anyone will ever know,” an unnamed source told US Weekly. On January 26, Brown tweeted:

The parallels between Brown’s life and her mother’s are hard to miss.

Houston met Bobby Brown at the Soul Train Awards in 1989. The pair dated, got engaged, survived a miscarriage, got married, and had one daughter together — Bobbi Kristina Brown.

“There was infidelity in the marriage, yes, on both parts,” Bobby Brown told Access Hollywood’s Shawn Robinson in January about his relationship with Houston. “Both of us cheated on each other, period. So that’s hard to swallow for both of us. I just think when two people that love each other as much as we loved each other, when they start drifting apart, different people come into the situation, into the scenario, and we make mistakes.”

Brown and Houston were married for 15 years in a union that graced the cover of tabloids many times. “He was my drug,” Houston told Oprah Winfrey in a widely publicized 2009 interview. “I didn’t do anything without him. I wasn’t getting high by myself. It was me and him together, and we were partners, and that’s what my high was — him. He and I being together, and whatever we did, we did it together. No matter what, we did it together.”

Notably, the two did crack together, despite Houston’s famous 2000 interview with Diane Sawyer where she dramatically declared, “We don’t do crack. We don’t do that. Crack is wack.” By the mid-2000s, she was in and out of rehab for her addiction to the drug.

In 2003, police responded to a domestic violence 911 call at the couple’s Georgia home. They found Houston with a bruised cheek and a cut lip. Bobby Brown turned himself in and was charged with a misdemeanor for battery.

Two years later, the family’s problems were exposed to the world on a Bravo reality show titled Being Bobby Brown.

Bobby Brown and Houston divorced in 2006. In April 2007, Houston gained custody of Bobbi Kristina Brown, then 14 years old.
