Jon Stewart gives Mike Huckabee’s shocking Holocaust comments the treatment they deserve

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart was literally speechless on Monday night upon hearing Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee’s comments comparing the Iran nuclear deal to the Holocaust.

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. He’s so naive he would trust the Iranians, and he would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven,” Huckabee said, referring to the Nazis’ use of the oven to kill Jewish people in concentration camps (and invoking Godwin’s law in the process).

Stewart responded in a segment in which he only made faces and grunting noises as clips rolled of other candidates condemning Huckabee, and CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson explaining the “Donald Trump” effect on the Republican presidential election — the idea that Republicans are now encouraged to make increasingly bizarre comments just to get attention and rise in the polls, so they can meet the threshold (of polling in the top 10) to take part in the first debate.

Later in the show, Stewart explained the segment: “For the past — I don’t know — 15 or 16 years, we’ve had a running joke that I could really do the show without saying anything — that I could just make stupid faces and grunt. And we never had the balls to try that. With two weeks to go, we thought, ‘Yeah, yeah, why not?’ So that’s what we did. And I realized I’ve been working way too hard.”
