Apple has released a public beta version of its upcoming iOS 9 software for iPhone, the first time it has done so for a major iOS release (although the company has released consumer betas of its OS X software for Macs before). Yesterday, a new version of iOS went out to registered developers.

Apple releases a consumer beta of the upcoming iOS 9 software for iPhone and iPad.

The iOS 9 public beta became available this morning to people who had signed up for Apple’s Beta Software Program, and who are probably hurrying to download it right now, rather than actually reading this post, because in the past Apple has put a cap on the number of people who can download beta software.
Because there is always the chance of debilitating software bugs, Apple is advising people to download the beta software to a secondary device, making the assumption that you have more than one iPhone or iPad lying around. But some of you won’t do that, and then will likely have complaints about some element of the new software on your everyday iPhone.
IOS 9 is expected to bring a whole bunch of new and improved features to iPhones and iPads. The official release will happen in the fall, but until then, you will definitely be cooler than your friends running iOS 8.4.
