Cloud HR Company Namely Adds a CFO and CTO

Half of its executive team and two of its three C-level execs are women.

Namely

Namely, the New York-based company that offers a set of human-resource applications that run in the cloud, said Friday it has named a new CFO and CTO.

Radhika Samant is the new CFO. Previously she spent eight years as the CFO of Enterprise DB, a database company. The new CTO is Teresa Dietrich. She was previously senior VP for technology at WebMD.

And here’s something you don’t see every day, especially at tech companies: Half of Namely’s most senior executives and two of its three C-level execs are women. And while Namely is still a small company with only about 200 employees, it is, by that measure, light years ahead of other tech firms struggling with a wider diversity crisis. Twitter said yesterday that only about 22 percent of its leadership positions were held by women and set a goal of raising that to 25 percent. Facebook was slightly better at 23 percent. At Salesforce.com, five of the 21 most senior executives are women.

It has been a busy year in other ways for Namely. Two months ago, it closed a $45 million C round led by Sequoia Ventures, boosting its total capital raised to $77 million. After about three years of operations, it processes $1 billion worth of paychecks for its customers — mostly mid-sized companies — every year.
