Todd Bernard

Another week, another significant investment in an Indian startup. Here’s the full story, plus more funding news from around the tech industry:

  • “Chinese Airbnb” Tujia.com raised $300 million of investment at a $1 billion valuation. The funding was led by Xiaomi-backer All-Stars Investment. Previous investors include LightSpeed Venture Partners and GGV Capital (Bloomberg Business).
  • Cloud data and storage company Tintri raised $125 million, saying it plans to go public next year. The round was led by Silver Lake Kraftwerk, and Tintri has now raised $260 million in total funding (Reuters).
  • Indian travel startup OYO Rooms (“like an Uber for hotel rooms”) landed a $100 million investment led by SoftBank. Its biggest competitor, Stayzilla, raised a $20 million Series B earlier this year (Tech in Asia).
  • In other foreign “Uber for X” startup news, China’s “Uber for laundry” raised a $100 million Series B. Edaixi’s new round is led by Baidu, and comes a year after a $20 million Series A led by Matrix Partners and SIG (Tech in Asia).
  • Practo, an Indian health startup that’s sort of like a search engine for patients to find doctors, raised a $90 million round led by Tencent. The coterie of investors include Google Capital, Sofina, Sequoia India, Yuri Milner, Altimeter Capital, Matrix Partners and Sequoia Capital (Wall Street Journal).
  • Wireless hotspot maker Skyroam raised $23.5 million in a Series B investment led by Lenovo Group, with participation from CBC Capital, GSR Ventures, Vickers Venture and others (Silicon Valley Business Journal).
  • Leanplum, which specializes in tech for in-app marketing, raised a $11.6 million Series B round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, with additional money coming from Shasta Ventures (VentureBeat).
  • Blockspring, which adds integration tools for spreadsheet services, raised $3.4 million in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz and SV Angel (TechCrunch).
