Storage and IT giant EMC just announced a new addition to its board of directors.
EMC Adds BJ’s Wholesale Club CEO Laura Sen to Board of Directors
The appointment increases the number of directors to 13.

Laura J. Sen, 59, is the CEO of retail giant BJ’s Wholesale Club and will be EMC’s 13th director. She is the third new addition to the company’s board this year, following two new directors added as part of a standstill agreement with the activist hedge fund Elliott Management.
Sen will be the second woman on the board, joining to Jami Miscik, president of Kissinger Associates. Sen is a 26-year veteran of BJ’s and has been its CEO since 2009.
It’s unclear how the addition of a new director may alter the composition of the board as EMC continues to wrestle with Elliott. The investment firm owns 2 percent of EMC shares and has pressured the company to spin off its 80 percent controlling stake in cloud software firm VMware.
EMC shares fell by four cents or less than 1 percent in after-hours trading after the appointment was announced.
