You Can Preorder the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset Starting January 6

We still don’t know how much the Rift will cost.

Kurt Wagner

Facebook-owned Oculus will open pre-sale orders for its widely anticipated Oculus Rift virtual reality headset on Wednesday. That’s good news for Oculus, which has been talking up the headset for more than six months and just recently announced its accompanying gaming controllers would be delayed.

There are still a few key details missing with the Rift, including the price and an actual ship date. Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said at Re/code’s annual Code conference in May that the whole Oculus package would be “in the $1,500 range,” but things haven’t gotten more specific than that.

Oculus looks like it’s keeping these details under wraps as long as possible. “We’ll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when preorders go live,” the company’s blog post reads.

That means we’ll know “everything” (ship date, price, etc.) at 8 am PT on January 6.
