The head of Google’s enterprise apps business is jumping over to run its virtual reality business

Amit Singh, the president of Google for Work, the company’s unit that sells its suite of apps to other companies, is now leading business and operations for Google’s nascent virtual reality division.

He said so in a tweet.

Singh, a former Oracle sales exec, has lead Google for Work since 2010. He’s respected inside Google for running a tight ship in the unit that competes with Microsoft. The unit, though, didn’t become important until late last year, when the company brought on SVP Diane Greene to run an invigorated enterprise push.

So it’s weird to see Singh depart now. But he’s leaving for other green pastures within the company.

His arrival at the virtual reality division, started earlier this year, signals its intent to run like an actual business. Presumably he’ll work with content and manufacturing partners, as well as the retail sales for Google’s Cardboard device and whatever else is in the pipeline. We reached out to Google for more information on his new role.

Google for Work has not yet named a replacement for Singh, according to a rep.
