A special casualty of the 2008 financial crash: Full-price fashion

Consumers want value more than ever, The RealReal’s Julie Wainwright says.

Recode/Alex Ulreich

At yesterday’s Code Commerce Series event, The RealReal founder and CEO Julie Wainwright talked with Recode’s Jason Del Rey about whether we’re in a repeat of the dot-com bubble, when she was the CEO of Pets.com. She also discussed how fashion consumers’ demands have evolved since the 2008 financial collapse, with value now driving purchase decisions more than before.

Now you can listen to the full audio of Wainwright’s session on our free podcast, Recode Replay:

Wainwright also explained how The RealReal won over luxury brands that were once wary of the company’s consignment sales model. The biggest holdout starts with a “C” and might end with a “hanel.”
