Here’s what Elon Musk, Sheryl Sandberg and others said at Code Conference Day Two | Recode Daily: June 2, 2016

Mars colonization, Gawker-Thiel and more.

.From the second day of Code Conference 2016: Elon Musk went into detail about SpaceX's plans for Mars and why Tesla's real Silicon Valley competition might be Google, not Apple. Sheryl Sandberg said that Peter Thiel won't be leaving the Facebook board over the Gawker Media lawsuit fracas. Jack Dorsey gave his own definition of wokeness. Click below for a rundown of the day's speakers. Up today: Gawker head honcho Nick Denton, Tinder CEO Sean Rad and more.

.Uber is getting $3.5 billion in funding from the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, the largest investment the ride-hailing startup has received from a single investor. As part of the deal, the fund's managing director, Yasir Al Rumayyan, is joining the Uber board.

.On the new Code Media, "Warcraft" director Duncan Jones talks to Peter Kafka about why Hollywood won't fund sci-fi blockbusters starring women, and the recent passing of Jones's father, glam rock icon David Bowie.

.Intel CEO Brian Krzanich planned and then canceled a fundraiser for Donald Trump at his Atherton, Calif., home that was scheduled for today. The company now says that Krzanich isn't endorsing a candidate, but sources inside the company are pissed, given the company's sweeping public commitments to diversifying its ranks and Donald Trump's fondness for saying racist things.

.Nick Bilton, who literally wrote the book on Twitter, has the details on Jack Dorsey's rough ride since returning to run the company last year. Two noteworthy details: Co-founder and board member Ev Williams tried (and failed) to get Twitter to buy his second startup, Medium, for $500 million, and Twitter's board does not have a Plan B should Dorsey's turnaround sputter and fail.

Tasbeeh Herwees in Good Magazines reports from the frontlines of Tumblr, where some teen girls are performing their socialism by shoplifting. A sample: "I essentially believe: take from the rich, give to the poor and fuck capitalism... yes I still am a greedy materialistic person. But it’s okay because I’m self aware!"
