Can’t make it to Brazil for the Summer Olympics? Google wants you to feel like you’re there.

But we may have to wait for 2020 for VR tourism.
The company is launching new digital details on Google Maps for the 25 official indoor Olympic venues and the 12 outdoor ones. It’s part of a suite of Maps updates for the games, including updated Street View images and a more ambitious effort to map Rio de Janeiro’s famed favelas.
Immersive, 3-D indoor maps are a linchpin of Google’s future vision of virtual (and augmented) reality tourism. Google hasn’t announced any plans for viewing the Olympics in VR, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s concocting something.
